When 24/7 home care support is required, there are two ways to structure staffing of the home care service. A 24-hour day can be split into two 12-hour shifts. This approach is useful when the senior gets up a lot during the night and the caregiver cannot rest in the evening. A case like this does not require living accommodations for the caregiver, rather a chair close to the senior’s bed so the caregiver can respond quickly in the middle of the night. Alternatively, living accommodations do need to be made for live-in cases where the senior does sleep through the night. We typically use a 2 caregiver structure for these live-in cases where 1 caregiver works 4 days on a case and the second caregiver works the other 3 days.
