A new study from Northwestern University, located in downtown Chicago, recently discovered the ability to see Covid’s damaging effects of the body through radial imagery. Through different imaging techniques (CT scan, MRI, x-ray) they revealed damage to muscles, nerves, joints, bones and other soft tissue. After further scrutiny the images also revealed inflamed nerves, dead and damaged tissues, blood clots and damaged joints. Dr. Swati Deshmukh, author and assistant professor at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine said, “What we have found is that in some patients with Covid-19, the virus triggers an autoimmune reaction. In other words, the virus tricks the body into attacking itself.”
The lasting impact of Covid-19 varies, but a majority of survivors complain of psoriatic arthritis like symptoms, which is now being referred to as Covid-induced psoriatic arthritis and is a two part diagnosis:
- Psoriatic-causes redness and red patches on the body
- Arthritis-inflamed joints
While it’s not the exact diagnosis it’s the closest symptomatically and treatable with medication.
The length of time these symptoms will last is unknown and the symptoms reported by Mayo Clinic range from:
- Shortness of breath
- Joint pain
- Chest pain
- Muscle pain or headache
- Fast or pounding heartbeat
- Loss of smell or taste
- Memory, concentration or sleep problems
- Rash or hair loss
- And possible organ damage
